On Wednesday, the Federal Trade Commission announced a settlement with Machinima, a California based online entertainment network. The FTC had charged that the company deceived consumers with endorsement videos that were posted by "paid influencers." The YouTube videos endorsed Microsoft's Xbox One system and several games. These "influencers" failed to adequately disclose that they were paid for their "seemingly objective opinions," the FTC said. "When people see a product touted online, they have a right to know whether they're looking at an authentic opinion or a paid marketing pitch," said Jessica Rich, director of the FTC's bureau of consumer protection. "That's true whether the endorsement appears in a video or any other media." According to the FTC, Machinima and the reviewers were part of an Xbox One marketing campaign managed by Microsoft's advertising agency, Starcom MediaVest Group. Machinima guaranteed that the videos would be viewed at least 19 million times. dating with Trump, Sanders in NHVT colleges prepared for campus shootingsGlobalFoundries forced to cut some jobsBHS teacher nominated for science awardMonday scores and Tuesday scheduleActor Randy Quaid arrested in VermontVarsity Insider: Week 5 boys soccer power rankingsVermont fall foliage photos on Instagram
